Simcha Hyman: A Detail-Oriented Leader Balancing Business and Community Service
In the dynamic world of business and community service, Simcha Hyman stands out as a remarkable entrepreneur who has successfully built multiple ventures while maintaining a deep commitment to helping others. Starting his journey in medical supplies sales in 2012, Hyman, together with his business partner, transformed a small startup into a thriving multi-million dollar enterprise, which they later sold to a prominent private equity firm.
Today, as a founder of The Portopiccolo Group and more recently TriEdge Investments, Simcha Hyman approaches his work with meticulous attention to detail, believing that success lies in mastering the small components that collectively drive organizational excellence. “I’m a very detail-oriented guy,” Hyman explains, emphasizing how focusing on precise execution has been crucial to his business achievements.
Despite his business accomplishments, what truly sets Hyman apart is his dedication to community service. For the past 16 years, he has served as a volunteer EMT, recently elevating his commitment by completing paramedic certification in 2024. This round-the-clock responsibility means being ready to respond to emergencies at any moment, whether during family dinner, religious services, or in the middle of the night.
His commitment to helping others extends beyond emergency services. Hyman is actively involved in establishing a mental health organization called Beacon of Life, aimed at supporting individuals and families dealing with conditions such as bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and severe anxiety. The initiative focuses on case management to help patients achieve functional, successful lives through proper support and medication management.
As a father of six children ranging from 3 to 18 years old, Simcha Hyman maintains a structured daily routine that begins at 5:30 AM with prayer and study, followed by family time and business responsibilities. He describes himself as a “pretty calm guy” who rarely feels overwhelmed, using exercise as both a regular activity and a stress reliever when needed.
In business, Hyman’s philosophy centers on giving people opportunities to succeed. He’s known for believing in underdogs and providing second chances, even when others might have given up. This approach, while sometimes challenging, reflects his deep-seated belief in human potential and the value of mentorship.
A lifelong learner, Hyman acknowledges that stepping out of one’s comfort zone is crucial for growth. He advises young professionals to explore areas beyond their natural inclinations, sharing his own experience of wishing he had learned Excel earlier in his career. “Don’t put yourself in a box of being comfortable,” he counsels, while maintaining that core personality traits and natural inclinations play a significant role in career direction.
Recently, Hyman has taken up ice hockey as a new hobby, joining other amateur players for coached sessions in Brooklyn. This venture into an unfamiliar sport exemplifies his willingness to embrace new challenges and continue growing, both personally and professionally.
Through his various roles and responsibilities, Simcha Hyman exemplifies how attention to detail, commitment to community service, and belief in giving others chances can create a meaningful and successful career while making a positive impact on society. His approach to business and life demonstrates that success isn’t just about the bottom line, but about building strong relationships and contributing to community well-being.
